Placental Transmogrification of the Lung

چکیده
Placental transmogrification is a very rare lung disease, where the alveoli resemble the chorionic villi of placenta, and this change is a characteristic finding. A 31-year-old female patient presented with cough and dyspnea that had begun 2 weeks prior to admission. Along with giant bulla found in the left upper lung field, subsegmental consolidation was also identified in the lingular segment on plain chest radiograph and CT scan. Wedge resection was performed to remove the bulla. Pathologic examination of the resected bulla revealed destruction of the normal structures and characteristic villous and papillary changes. These changes led to a diagnosis of placental transmogrification. We made an encounter of an unusual placental transmogrification which had different image findings from other reported transmogrification cases. Thus, we report an atypical placental transmogrification case where both consolidation and giant bulla coexist.

Pulmonary placental transmogrification associated with adenocarcinoma of the lung: a case report with a comprehensive review of the literature
Pulmonary placental transmogrification (PT) is a rare entity with less than 40 cases reported in the literature. Most reported cases are associated with either bullous emphysema or with pulmonary fibrochondromatous hamartomas. We present only the second case of PT associated with adenocarcinoma of the lung. A 67-year-old female with multiple chronic medical ailments presented with shortness of ...
متن کاملPlacental transmogrification of the lung presenting as giant bullae with soft-fatty components.
A 44-year-old man presented with progressive dyspnea and a previous pneumothorax. Chest CT scan showed a mediastinal shift due to giant bullae containing soft tissue and fatty components in the left lower lung lobe, and a right upper lung lobe partially collapsed. The pulmonary function tests revealed forced vital capacity (FVC) 53% (of the predicted) and forced vital capacity in 1s (FEV1) 52%....

OBJECTIVE Placental transmogrification of the lung (PTL) is rare cystic lesion. Thus, we summarized the characteristics of PTL to explore the strategy of diagnosis and treatment. METHODS Two patients pathologically confirmed PTL were treated in our hospital. Retrospectively analysis was performed on such 2 cases and 34 cases of PTL reported in abroad. The basic information and clinical charac...

Amiodarone is used in treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Therapeutic use of amiodarone is limited by its side effects, including pulmonary toxicity. Human Placenta Extract (HPE) contains a variety of bio-active substances. Thus, the present study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the protective effects of HPE on the structural lung changes induced by amiodarone using stereological methods. Spragu...

Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome is a rare disease that results in parenchymal damage believed to be caused by recurrent lung infections in childhood. We report a case of a previously healthy young woman that presented with insidious progression of exertional dyspnea with restrictive lung physiology. Axial imaging demonstrated a hyperinflated emphysematous right lung with lower lobe fibrosis, nodul...
